The Legacy of Olga Samaroff Stokowski - Debra Brubaker Burns
One of the most influential American musicians in the first half of the 20th century, artist-teacher Olga Samaroff Stokowski (1882-1948) nurtured the musical expression and discipline of many pianists at the Philadelphia Conservatory and the Juilliard School of Music from 1924 to 1948.
Debra Brubaker Burns researches historical topics in piano pedagogy, giving particular attention to societal and technological changes that have influenced music-teaching methods. She is currently writing a book on the 200-year history of American piano methods.
