At the age of 19, Italian-born Alessio Bax won the First Prize at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, and in 2000 he was declared First Prize winner in the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition. Since that time he has established an international reputation, performing solo recitals and concerti with leading orchestras throughout the world. His 2008/09 schedule includes extensive tours of Japan and Russia and appearances in France, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico, Italy and throughout the USA.

Noontime Recitals

Louis Nagel holds three degrees from The Juilliard School and has been on the faculty of the University of Michigan since 1969. He has concertized and lectured throughout the world on a variety of musical topics that explore the relationship between psychological and performance issues.

APA American Pianists' Association 2009 Fellow
The 2009 Fellow of the American Pianists Association, yet to be determined at the time of this publication, will perform Friday's noontime recital.

APA Mei-Ting Sun
Mei-Ting Sun is the First Prize winner of the 7th National Chopin Piano Competition and the first Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition. Named one of the Musicians of the Year 1996 by the Village Voice at age 15, Mr. Sun has performed in many of world's great concert halls, including Alice Tully Hall, where his performance was praised by The New York Times as "stunningly fluid."

Mr. Sun will perform this noontime recital on a Disklavier concert grand piano in the Salon at Yamaha Artist Services in New York City. His instrument will be connected live over the Internet to a Disklavier® concert grand on stage at the NCKP. As Mr. Sun performs in New York, he will also be playing the instrument in Lombard and his live performance will be projected onto a large screen for our audience.

MTNA NATIONAL PIANO AUDITIONS WINNERS

The tradition continues. Again at the 2009 NCKP, the winners of the national MTNA Piano Auditions will perform Thursday evening's recital.

On Friday afternoon, distinguished pianist and teacher Robert Weirich will teach these three outstanding young pianists in a master class. See Teaching Demonstrations.
